State of Michigan's Universities

By Andrew Cluley

Detroit, MI – Michigan's universities need to work in collaboration with government, industry, and other schools in the state and around the world. That's according to the Presidents of Michigan State University, Michigan Tech, and Walsh College. They discussed the role higher education plays in transitioning Michigan to a knowledge-based economy at the Economic Club of Detroit on Monday.
Eastern Michigan University President John Fallon says that's a message that resonates clearly at EMU.
Michigan State University President Lou Anna Simons says it's important to see the long-term value of a college education, even if it leaves you with the burden of student loans. She says the state's universities need to start basing partnerships on the assets each school brings to address a problem in order to ease questions of who's in control.
