AAATA Unanimously Approves 2014 Fiscal Year Budget

The Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority has approved a nearly 34 million dollar operating budget for fiscal year 2014.  As WEMU's Andrew Cluley reports, the A-A-A-T-A board on Thursday evening, voted six to nothing in favor of the new spending plan.

The Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority has approved a nearly 34 million dollar balanced budget for the upcoming fiscal year.  The 2014 fiscal year budget is nearly five percent larger than the 2013 budget.  C-E-O Michael Ford says the larger budget will allow The Ride to provide more service. Ford says increases in state funding, fare boxes, and grant funding help balance the budget.  The plan adds four bus drivers, two other staff positions, and higher costs for bio-diesel.

Like many, I first came to this area when I started school at the University of Michigan, then fell in love with the community and haven’t left. After graduating from U of M in the mid 1990’s I interned at WDET for several years, while also working a variety of jobs in Ann Arbor. Then in 1999 I joined the WEMU news team.
