The American Red Cross was on the scene of a fire at a University of Michigan sorority house early Tuesday morning. No one was hurt and the cause of the fire at the Alpha Gamma Delta house is still under investigation.

Donna Duvin is the Executive Director of the Washtenaw-Lenawee Chapter of the American Red Cross. She says Red Cross volunteers came out to assistant the residents of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority.

Duvin says the Red Cross did assist seven students with clothing and bedding replacement. She says all of the students did have housing for the night last night, but some may need housing placement for longer. She says the Red Cross is monitoring the situation and is ready to help any student in need.

Like many, I first came to this area when I started school at the University of Michigan, then fell in love with the community and haven’t left. After graduating from U of M in the mid 1990’s I interned at WDET for several years, while also working a variety of jobs in Ann Arbor. Then in 1999 I joined the WEMU news team.
