Michigan State Representative Jeff Irwin thinks Attorney General Bill Schuette is wasting tax payer dollars trying to defend the state’s ban on same-sex marriage.
The state spent $40,000 on witnesses testifying in the recent trial on same sex marriage. Irwin has requested information on all of the costs connected to the case.

Irwin says he’s proud Wasthenaw County and Clerk Larry Kestenbaum opened his office Saturday morning to allow same-sex couples to marry before a court order to halt the marriages. He is also asking the state legislature to act on a bill that would allow same-sex couples to adopt, which was the original focus of the court case.
Schuette told reporters Monday he won’t shy away from the marriage issue as he kicks off his re-election campaign.
