State Of The Huron Conference Thursday

As the Huron River Watershed Council prepares to open its State of the Huron Conference Thursday, the watershed is enjoying generally healthy conditions.

That's according to Huron River Watershed Council Executive Director Laura Rubin, who says the watershed has seen improvements since the last State of the Huron gathering in 2009.

"Before we had been sort of holding steady," Rubin says, "and we now are seeing some improvements ikkn the overall health and ecological health of the watershed."

Rubin says there are several reasons for the improvements in the health of the Huron River watershed, including expanded partnerships and regulatory and physical improvements.

The State of the Huron Conference runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the Morris Lawrence Building at Washtenaw Community College.

Among the keynote speakers is John Austin, director of the Michigan Economic Center at Prima Civitas, who'll talk about the role Michigan and the Huron River play in the "Blue Economy".
