While most of the flood waters in metro Detroit have receded, assistance is still needed in a variety of ways.
Some metro Detroit roadways remain flooded and hundreds of home-owners are dealing with water damaged basements from Monday's rain.
The Southeastern Michigan Chapter of the American Red Cross has an emergency shelter at Garden City Middle School as part of the disaster response with Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb Counties being declared disaster areas.
Spokesperson John Mozena says Ann Arbor-area residents can play a vital role in providing help.
He says, "If you're in the Washtenaw-Lenawee area and you have friends or family or acquaintances, or co-workers, or whatever who are being displaced, who need help, to help them out. A lot of times it's the first ring outside the most affected area where people are ale to do the most good."
Mozena says assistance can be as simple as helping clean-up a basement so homeowners can avoid illness caused by mold.
The Washtenaw-Lenawee Chapter of the Red Cross has also offered manpower and other supplies as part of the disaster response.
