Council member says recall isn't about what he's done, but rather a push for homeless encampments.

Ann Arbor City Council member, Stephen Kunselman, will debate issues around homeless camps instead of challenging the language in a recall petition. The Third Ward representative says the effort to recall him isn't about what he's done. The recall is an attempt by some in the community to push for homeless camps.

Kunselman says he can't politically or personally support homeless individuals sleeping in tents, particularly in freezing temperatures. He believes third ward residents agree with him. To force a council debate on the issue, Kunselman will introduce a resolution supporting a homeless camp. Kunselman asserted his motive for forcing the debate is because "I want to hear from my colleagues, particularly from the mayor, about their position [SIC] on the establishment of homeless camps in Ann Arbor."

Homeless individuals and their advocates claim community members have responded positively to their recall effort. They hope to collect 2200 signatures by the end of the month, in order to force a recall election in May.
