University of Michigan officials say students and staff planning a trip to Mexico, the Caribbean, and South or Central America should take aggressive measures to limit exposure to mosquitos.
Many popular Spring Break destinations for college students are in countries affected by the Zika virus. University of Michigan Health Services spokesperson Kim Broekhuizen says the university has contacted all staff and students who are registered to travel to countries with the Zika virus.
She says the Centers for Disease Control has recommended using an insect repellent with at least 20% DEET. Broekhuizen says U-M staff and students who feel ill after traveling to Zika infected countries should seek medical treatment.
Spring Break for the University of Michigan begins February 29.
