Washtenaw Intermediate School District will see an increase in preschool funding under a bill signed by Governor Rick Snyder Monday.
The money will help young at-risk kids in Washtenaw County get a head start in elementary school. WISD Superintendent Scott Menzel says the district advocated for an increase in funding for the program under the $16 billion education budget signed by the Governor.
“The other big thing that’s really important is they maintained the increase in funding for the Great Start Readiness Preschool Program. For us, that’s a top priority. We were pleased to see that funding was maintained at the increased level."
WISD serves over 500 preschoolers. Menzel says overall funding for the district will remain the same.
