Linda Yohn on stage at the 2017 Detroit Jazz Festival

It seems a little bit early to be fundraising but, here we are, right in the middle of the fall pledge drive.  By 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 20, we need to have raised $220,000 to keep WEMU healthy and sustainable.  You can help us by making your gift right now at 888-299-8910 or donate online.

We are dedicating this pledge drive and its success to the outstanding legacy of our music director, Linda Yohn.  Linda in hanging up the headphones on her remarkable 30 year career at WEMU on December 4 and nothing will make her happier than to know that we remain strong and viable as your community NPR station.

I've had the honor of being Linda's colleague and friend for the entire 26 years I've been at WEMU.  I've seen her on air and off, doing whatever it takes to keep WEMU at the forefront of the community.  In good times and in bad, you have been able to count on Linda to be there with the right kind of music and just hearing her warm, encouraging voice can lift your spirits.  Linda's tireless efforts on WEMU's behalf; from slogging broadcast equipment through the mud and rain at numerous outdoor festivals to quietly building one of the largest and most impressive jazz record collections in the world by working with record labels and musicians, are a testament to her commitment to this community.  No matter what it is, Linda does it with a smile on her face and a joyful spirit.  No one who has crossed paths with Linda ever forgets her.

For a gift of $400 you can help us celebrate Linda's remarkable legacy at the Ark on Monday, December 18.  With music from Mr. B, Aguanko, Marion Hayden, and George Bedard and the Kingpins it's going to be an incredible evening of friendship and celebration.  Only 150 pairs of tickets are available so don't wait -- make that gift today and let Linda know that she has made a difference at WEMU.

Thank you,

Molly Motherwell, WEMU General Manager

Mary Motherwell, known as Molly, joined the WEMU staff in November of 1991 as Marketing and Development Director after stints in public relations at Domino’s Pizza International, and as an account executive first at the old Ypsilanti Press and then the former WIQB-FM. In December 2010, upon his retirement, she succeeded Arthur Timko as General Manager, only the third GM in WEMU’s 57 year history.
