The Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority is urging businesses and major institutions, like universities, to help flatten the rush-hour curve as they reopen after the pandemic closures.
That means staggering work and class schedules, so people are not arriving and leaving all at the same time. Matt Carpenter is the CEO of TheRide and says walking and biking are other options residents can consider to avoid spreading COVID-19 when they commute.
Matt Carpenter: But the reality is, if everything comes back to the way it was in the past, it would be very difficult for the roads, parking lots and buses to handle the volume of passengers without becoming crowded.
TheRide is currently operating at 20% of its capacity because of the pandemic social distancing requirements but hopes to increase to 60% in August as students return to college campuses.
