The City of Ann Arbor will install a new solar and energy storage system at the Northside Community Center as part of its A2 Zero Carbon Neutrality plan.
A 23-kilowatt solar system, along with two Lithium-ion batteries, will be installed on the property this summer. Missy Stults is the sustainability and innovations manager for the City of Ann Arbor and says the batteries will provide energy storage for when the solar system overproduces. The goal is for the center to produce its own energy.
Missy Stults: The system is scaled to provide nearly 100% of their usage, of course, there is always the crazy peak day when it’s really really hot and you may be running air conditioning.
This will be the first solar system of its kind installed by the city. The city also plans to install systems at four other community locations in Ann Arbor. They have not determined the locations for those projects.
