Former Ann Arbor State Representative Jeff Irwin chose to keep going with his duties in Lansing.  Now, is returning to Lansing. This time as a State Senator. Irwin discusses the outcome of the elction and moving forward representing 18th State Senagte district.

Washtenaw County Voters Send All Democrats To Lansing

Former State Representative Jeff Irwin is headed to the Michigan Senate.  The Ann Arbor Democrat defeated Republican Martin Church and Working Class Party candidate Thomas Repasky to win the 18th District Senate seat.  Irwin was elected 53rd district state representative in 2010 and served until term-limited in the 2016 election cycle.  He will replace current 18th district state Senator Rebekah Warren.  Warren is term-limited and, on Tuesday, won election to represent the 55th district in the State House of Representatives.

The Democratic incumbents all won re-election to the state House in the 52nd, 53rd, and 54th district state House races.  Donna Lasinski will serve a 2nd term in the 52nd after beating Republican Teri Aiuto.  Yousef Rabhi cruised to a win over Republican Jean Holland in the 53rd, and Ronnie Peterson will continue representing the 54th district with his win over Republican Colton Campbell.

As pointed out earlier, there will be new representation in the 55th state House district.  Current 18th district state senator Rebekah Warren has won a term in the state House.  Term limits prevented her from seeking re-election to the state Senate.  Prior to winning election to the Senate, Warren served two terms as the 53rd district state House representative.  She will only be able to serve one term in her new office when term limit laws kick in.  Adam Zemke is the current 55th district representative.  He was term-limited out in this election cycle.
