At Least Three Lawsuits Filed Related To Michigan Election Recount

At least three lawsuits have now been filed related to Green Party nominee Jill Stein’s effort to force a recount of the ballots cast in Michigan’s presidential election.

The Stein campaign is asking a federal judge in Detroit to order the recount to begin right away so the state does not miss federal vote-counting deadlines. In Michigan courts, Republicans and the Trump campaign say it’s already too late, and elections officials should be ordered to shelve the recount.

And Michigan’s Republican attorney general, Bill Schuette, says Stein should not be allowed to request a recount because she has no hope of emerging the victor.

“If Jill Stein maybe lost by 20 votes, or 200, or maybe even two thousand, but we should have to receive two million votes in a statewide recount, which is just inconceivable,” Schuette said.

The Stein campaign says it’s not looking to change the election results, but is seeking the recount to test the reliability of Michigan’s system for tallying ballots.
