Governor Gretchen Whitmer is declaring an energy emergency in Michigan.
The governor’s executive order eases state environmental regulations on southeast Michigan gas that are typically in effect for the warmer months.
The goal is lowering gas prices as President Trump’s war with Iran spikes oil costs around the world.
In May, gas stations typically switch to a summer fuel blend. Despite causing lower emissions, it also can be more expensive.
Whitmer says by keeping the winter blend in place longer, Michiganders could save money.
Her order follows the federal government easing its own rules around summer gas around the country.
The order is in effect until July at the latest.
