Ann Arbor's City Councilheld a closed session Monday night to learn more as to why Ann Arbor Police Chief Michael Cox was placed on administrative paid leave earlier this month by the city administrator. 89.1 WEMU's Jorge Avellan has the details.
Mayor Christopher Taylor told WEMU the closed session was constructive, but details as to why Police Chief Michael Cox was placed on leave remain confidential for now. The mayor says the Chief has been given a full report on the investigation that was conducted on him and is expected to provide a written response to council later this week.
Mayor Christopher Taylor: After he provides the response, it's in the administrator's court. The administrator will make a recommendation to council, and then we will take it from there.
Chief Cox and his attorney Nick Roumel also attended the closed session. Roumel says they also believe the meeting was constructive.
Nick Roumel: I do want to stress that Chief Cox is fully committed to remaining to do the job he was brought in to do.
