Governor Gretchen Whitmer will give her first State of the State address tonight.

Governor Whitmer will give her speech in the state House chamber, packed with lawmakers.  Posts to social media show Whitmer has already been in the chamber preparing for the big night.

This will be the first time a Democrat has given the address in 8 years.  And Whitmer will be speaking to a majority Republican Legislature.

Whitmer is expected to address things that she made clear during the campaign are priorities for her – like education, clean water and health care.  But don’t get too excited when it comes to infrastructure.  Whitmer is likely to save her plans for how to fix the state’s roads for her budget proposal in March.

The State of the State address begins at 7pm (weather permitting).
