A new campaign says it’s going to make the government pay attention to the struggles of poor people. The Michigan Poor People’s Campaign launched on Monday at the state Capitol.
“Somebody’s hurting my brother…”
They want clean water for everyone. An end to poverty, hunger, and racism. The issues they’re fighting for are varied, but they say it’s all part of a common struggle – caused by the wealthy and corporations that are in control. Members of the Michigan Poor People’s Campaign say they won’t take it anymore.
Sylvia Orduno is with the campaign and the Michigan Welfare Rights Organization. She says lawmakers in Lansing are on notice.
“We will not stand for any more of the injustices you continue to put on our people.”
The rally in Lansing was part of a national launch of the Poor People’s Campaign. Similar rallies were held in states across the US.
