Issues of the Environment: Ann Arbor Climate Corps helping push the city toward carbon neutrality
You may not have noticed, but the Ann Arbor Climate Corps has been quietly working this year to combat the affects of climate change and help the city achieve its goal of carbon neutrality by 2030. The program is designed to increase the Ann Arbor Office of Sustainability’s outreach capacity and help residents take action toward that end. WEMU's David Fair talked it over with Ann Arbor Climate Corps program manager, Maggie Halpern.

Washtenaw United: The Washtenaw Health Project helps reduce the number of uninsured
There are still a good number of people in Washtenaw County without health insurance. The Affordable Care Act has helped, but there is more work to be done. Additionally, if there is a change in administrations in Washington after the November elections, the ACA could become a thing of the past. What then? WEMU's David Fair talked it over with Jeremy Lepedis, who serves as executive director of the Washtenaw Health Project.

Washtenaw United: Washtenaw County's '#wishyouknew' campaign works to destigmatize mental health issues
For as long as we’ve been discussing advancements in mental health care and the work to destigmatize mental health issues, there is still a lot of work to be done. One of the efforts in Washtenaw County is the “#wishyouknew” campaign. It is put forth by the Washtenaw County Health Department. WEMU's David Fair talked with the county's communications coordinator, Lisa DeRamos, about the program, who it is helping and how it can connect you with available resources.

Washtenaw United: The ongoing struggle to combat domestic violence in Washtenaw County
It is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, so you may see more people wearing purple. It serves as a symbol of peace, courage, survival, honor, and personal dedication to domestic violence awareness. WEMU's David Fair checked in with the executive director of Safehouse Center in Washtenaw County for a picture of what is happening locally. Washtenaw United: United Way for Southeastern Michigan expands free tax assistance program
The tax season has arrived, and there are a lot of people in the area that need some assistance in making sure they file accurately and on time. In fact, about 20% of those eligible don’t file taxes and miss out on the valuable credits they are entitled to. The United Way for Southeastern Michigan makes free tax assistance available to those in Washtenaw County earning $67,000 a year or less. WEMU's David Fair talks more about the program with the United Way’s Megan Thibos for this week's "Washtenaw United."

#OTGYpsi: 'We Adore Flowers' among small businesses in Ypsilanti enhancing sustainability practices
More businesses in Ypsilanti are working to become more sustainable in their practices. A Prospect Park business called "We Adore Flowers" is among them. It focuses on organically grown, local blooms and have gone to great lengths to institute sustainable practices in creating their fragrant offerings. Rylee Barnsdale talked all about the "We Adore Flowers" establishment with its founder/owner, Ginny Blades.
