We all recognize solid waste as a significant issue, but how much do we really know about trash? That's the point and function of the upcoming "Trash Talk Tour" in Washtenaw County. Issues of the Environment: A shifting energy future in Ann Arbor and beyond
Advocates for municipal or community power utilities in Ann Arbor believe that moving away from a centralized, privately held utility provider to one that is owned and operated by the local government or another state body will provide a better service to the public. A part of Ann Arbor's plan in achieving carbon neutrality by 2030 is to create a more robust circular economy. Think and act local first, and become more mindful of how we use, reuse, and dispose of all of our materials at home and at work. Washtenaw United: Peace Neighborhood Center in Ann Arbor adds to transformational programs
The Peace Neighborhood Center in Ann Arbor is expanding wellness programs to benefit youngsters and their families. That is in addition to building on existing programs aimed at transformational experiences that build self-sufficiency. Bonnie Billups has been involved with the center since the 1970’s and now serves as its executive director. He joined WEMU's David Fair to talk about the latest program updates as the quest for equity and equality continues.

Issues of the Environment: UM-led study shows electrification of ridesharing services to have overall benefit, with added challenges
Ridesharing services, like Uber and Lyft, continue to grow in popularity. That is particularly true in college towns and urban centers like Ann Arbor. Imagine a ridesharing fleet that was entirely electric, and we can imagine tremendous environmental benefit. According to a new study by the University of Michigan and Carnegie Mellon University, there are environmental benefits. There is also likely to be an increase in some existing pollution and public health issues. WEMU's David Fair talked with U-M Assistant Professor Parth Vaishnav about the real world application and implications of the new data.

#OTGYpsi: Ypsilanti's Rutherford Pool partners with Washtenaw County to meet high demand for swim lessons
The Rutherford Pool in Ypsilanti is truly a community pool. It has become more accessible and has now partnered with Washtenaw County to help teach people of all ages to swim. WEMU's Josh Hakala and Concentrate Media's Rylee Barnsdale learned all about it in this conversation with Rutherford Pool program director, Cathy Thorburn.
