4th of July Events

  It is Independence Day and, as usual, the occasion will be marked with family and friends get-togethers, barbecues and some local parades!

At 10 a.m. this morning, the 23rd Annual Ann Arbor Jaycees Fourth of July parade gets underway. The parade begins at the corner of South State Street and East William Street. Included in the procession will be a contingent from WEMU, so make sure to look for us, and wave!  The Ann Arbor event also has a bike decorating contest for children. That gets underway at 9:30  this morning. Once decorated, the kids may ride their bikes in the parade.

In Ypsilanti, the 84th Annual Independence day parade gets underway at 11 a.m.. It will begin at the corner of Oakwood and Cross Streets, and the procession will make its way through Depot town before ending at Rice Street. The Ypsilanti event is Michigan's longest running Independence Day parade.

In Whitmore Lake, the parade begins at 10 this morning. The route begins on the corner of Barker Road and Main Street.

And, if you are looking for a good BBQ, but don't want to host it yourself, the Sons of American Legion Post 31 will take care of you! the public is invited to to stop by Post 31 at 1700 Ridge Road beginning at 11 a.m. this morning. The group will put on a feast of grilled chicken, coleslaw and baked beans. Also included in the nine-dollar price tag is a bag of chips and a roll.
