The Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority board will vote next week on a proposal to place a point-seven mill tax question on the May 6th ballot in Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, and Ypsilanti Township.
The AAATA Planning and Development Committee is asking the full board to have the community decide if they want to pay to implement proposed transit improvements. The five year, point-seven mill tax would raise about $4.3 million annually.
The millage would fund the proposed service improvements included in the AAATA's five year transit plan. This includes extended evening and weekend hours, as well as route changes to offer more direct and faster service.The decision to consider putting the tax hike on the ballot this spring comes following a survey showing about 63 percent of voters would probably or definitely vote for a proposed tax hike of less than one mill.
