AUDIO: Rebekah Warren Announces Congressional Exploratory Committee

Rebekah Warren

State of Michigan Senator Rebekah Warren has announced today on 89.1 WEMU she will officially launch a Congressional Exploratory Committee for the seat being vacated by Representative John Dingell.

Warren made the announcement herself Friday morning during the Morning Edition with 89.1 WEMU’s David Fair. Listen to Warren’s announcement above.

More on Exploratory Committees:

Exploratory, draft or "testing the waters" committees are formed solely for the purpose of determining the feasibility of an individual’s candidacy for office. The activities of exploratory committees may include polling, travel, and telephone calls to determine whether the individual should become a candidate.

Warren’s term as 18th District State Senator is set to expire at the end of the year. She had previously announced her candidacy for re-election to the Michigan Senate. Now, she will form an exploratory committee rather than announce an official congressional run at this time.  Warren will remain in her role in the Michigan Senate until she makes her final determination to run for Congress by the April 22 filing deadline.

Prior to serving in the Senate, Warren was first elected to the Michigan House of Representatives in 2006, representing the state’s 53rd District in the State House of Representatives for four years.

John Dingell is the longest serving member of Congress in U-S History. The 87-year old Dearborn Democrat announced on Monday we would not seek re-election. When his term ends this year, he will have served nearly 60-years in the House of Representatives. Dingell took office in 1955, taking the seat held by his late father. And, there still could be another Dingell holding the office.

The Congressman’s wife, Debbie Dingell, has announced she will seek to replace her husband in Washington. She too, is a Democrat and will therefore run in the primary against Rebekah Warren. Dingell will discuss her candidacy at Downtown Home and Garden in Ann Arbor at 11:30 Friday morning.
