Ann Arbor City Council may have finally found a way to move forward with the city’s public art program. A series of three resolutions on tonight’s agenda could resolve the long-running debate over the issue.
The first resolution calls on staff to develop a transition plan and provide funding to implement it over the next two fiscal years.
The second resolution returns over $900,000 of old percent for art funds to their original sources. A final resolution will provide a six month contract so Aaron Seagraves can return to work as the Public Art Administrator.
Overall the effort will maintain funds for art projects at the Stadium Bridges, Kingsley Rain Garden and matching funds for the Coleman Jewett Chair and the Canoe Imagine art projects. Funds for art at the Argo Cascades are eliminated since all of the proposals for that project were rejected.
The resolutions are placed on the agenda in an order that likely means if the first resolution passes there will be enough votes for the following ones.
