United States Representative John Dingell (D-Dearborn) has announced he will not seek re-election this year, after serving in Congress for nearly 60-years. His wife, Debbie, last week announced she will seek the Democratic nomination to fill the 12th Congressional seat. Today, an Ypsilanti man announced he will seek to replace the 87-year old political legend, as a Republican.
48-year old Terry Bowman is a life-long Michigan resident and has spent the past 17-years working in an auto plant in Taylor. In a statement announcing his candidacy, Bowman said, “It’s time for a change in the 12th district. We don’t need a Washington insider who caters to the special interests. We need someone who understands what it’s like for the families and hard-working men and women to work on a job everyday. We need more jobs and I will work hard to help people with the problems they are facing."
Bowman is working a full day at his plant and afterward will meet with supporters in Taylor at a local small business. Over the next few months, Bowman committed to conducting a grassroots campaign, including holding kitchen table meetings across the district.
State Senator Rebekah Warren last week announced formation of an exploratory committee for a possible run for the 12th District seat. The Ann Arbor Democrat made the announcement live on 89.1 WEMU Friday morning. Warren says she plans to decide on whether to enter the race within two weeks.
