YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) - A fundraising event in Michigan plans to pit participants with big appetites against 20-foot-long bratwursts that weigh close to six pounds. The Ann Arbor News reports the Wurst
Challenge to benefit the FLY Children's Art Center is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on March 20.
Nine participants are registered so far, including Ypsilanti Mayor Paul Schreiber.  The event is hosted by Ypsilanti's Wurst Bar, the New Holland Brewing Co., blogger Mark Maynard and others.

It's a fundraiser for nonprofit FLY's Creativity Lab in Ypsilanti. The bar will donate 10 cents an inch for the sausage consumed. Participants also are raising money separately.  Maynard says they'll be "competing against their own pride."

Awards will be given to the biggest eater as well as the one with the best bratwurst-eating style.
