An Ypsilanti organization that puts on art shows on the first Friday of each month has received a $1,000 grant from micro-philanthropic group A2Awesome.
First Fridays Ypsilanti chair, secretary and planning committee member Kayj Michelle said they were excited to receive the grant.
"As a group, we just got to the point where we needed to have some sort of funding so that we could move forward with our advertising and marketing," Michelle said. "So when we got (the grant) we were just super stoked we could actually move forward with our development."
Michelle says in just the last week or so First Fridays Ypsilanti has added a couple of new venues that'll host art shows.
The Ann Arbor Awesome Foundation has now awarded two dozen $1,000 grants to help with projects such as elementary school bike-powered lighting systems and the launch of Bona Sera Cafe in Ypsilanti.
