ANN ARBOR — Two Detroit men are expected to stand trial in June on murder charges in the robbery and fatal shooting of an Eastern Michigan University football player.
The Ann Arbor News reports separate juries could hear the cases against Kristopher Pratt and Ed Thomas. The 20-year-olds are charged with open murder in the death of Demarius Reed of Chicago, who was killed Oct. 18 at his off-campus apartment building.
A June 23 trial date was set Tuesday. Lawyers for Pratt and Thomas have said there isn't enough evidence that that their clients committed the crimes.
Thomas and Pratt, who are jailed ahead of trial, also face armed robbery charges. An open murder charge means that the jury can choose to convict them of either first- or second-degree murder.
