Once again a record number of students applied to the University of Michigan.  It's the 8th consecutive year U of M's admissions office has set a record for applications received.
The nearly 50,000 applications for the 2014-15 school year is over 6 percent higher than last year's record.

Vice provost of academic affairs Lester Monts attributed the rising number of applications to the "superior resources and opportunities" offered by the school.

While the number of applications continue to climb, the university expects freshman enrollment to remain around 6,200 students.  Final enrollment won't be known until the fall but so far nearly 6,800 students have paid their deposit to attend, out of nearly 16,000 students that were accepted.

Like many, I first came to this area when I started school at the University of Michigan, then fell in love with the community and haven’t left. After graduating from U of M in the mid 1990’s I interned at WDET for several years, while also working a variety of jobs in Ann Arbor. Then in 1999 I joined the WEMU news team.
