The Washtenaw Health Initiative Opioid Project is bringing experts together from law enforcement, substance abuse treatment and other areas to develop a strategic plan to fight the growing problem of heroin and prescription drug abuse.
Heroin deaths in Washtenaw County doubled between 2012 and 2013.
The strategic plan will address the issue on several fronts: prevention, treatment, community education, public policy, and law enforcement, among others.
The plan should be ready for implementation this summer.
