Swift Run Dog Park To Close For Repairs Next Week

Many dog lovers in the Ann Arbor area may be howling with disappointment next week.  They will need to find a new place to let their four legged friends run free. The Swift Run Dog Park will be closed for repairs.

With only two off-leash dog parks in Ann Arbor, there's often quite a few canines running and playing at the park at Ellsworth and Platt. But, they'll need another location to run off some energy next week.

WashtenawCounty Parks Deputy Director Coy Vaughn says a week of maintenance and upgrades are scheduled. "We are making improvements to basically the surface area in the interior of the park, making it more accessible, adding some additional limestone fines to make all areas of the park more accessible for all users," Vaughn says.

Vaughn says they also will use the down time to improve the area where dogs play. This area gets torn up quite a bit, especially during wet weather.

The project is expected to cost about $4,000.

While Swift Run is closed, Vaughn recommends owners take their dogs to Olson Park on the city's north side off of DhuVarren.

Like many, I first came to this area when I started school at the University of Michigan, then fell in love with the community and haven’t left. After graduating from U of M in the mid 1990’s I interned at WDET for several years, while also working a variety of jobs in Ann Arbor. Then in 1999 I joined the WEMU news team.
