EMU Awarded $1.8 Million In Grants To Benefit Veterans And Low-Income, First-Generation Students

Oppurtunity awaits many new students at EMU in the upcoming year with the additional grant funding.

Programs aiming to help low-income students and military veterans are growing at Eastern Michigan University. 

 
The U.S. Department of Education has awarded $1.8 millionto Eastern Michigan University for tuition for military veterans and low-income students.Geoff Larcom of EMU media relations, says the funding will also allow the school to expand already existing programs for returning veterans. 

Larcome: "It'll mean providing veterans with individualized student success plans, bi-weekly meetings with success coaches, lectures, and workshops." 

Larcom says with this grant 80 military veterans and 140 freshman will be able to attend college this fall.
