Earth Day is officially April 22nd, but there's a big local celebration taking place this coming weekend.
Ann Arbor's Earth Day Festival is taking place this coming Sunday, April 17th at the Leslie Science and Nature Center. MacKenzie Maxwell, program coordinator for Leslie, says it's a fun-filled day to encourage people to think of every day as "Earth Day."
40 local environmental organizations are involved in this year's event, which includes hands-on activities around sustainable living. Maxwell says one of the highlights is an "all species parade" at 2 PM.
"Kids can come dressed up as their favorite plant or animal and parade around the site."
Ann Arbor's Earth Day Festival runs from noon until 4 pm on Sunday at the Leslie Science and Nature Center and is free of charge.
