Ypsilanti Will Get More Temporary Speed Bumps

Like many cities in Washtenaw County, Ypsilanti is looking to improve road safety and they're turning to speed bumps.

Six additional temporary speed bumps will be installed in Ypsilanti.  Officials still have to decide where they will be placed.  The city already has another six that will be installed any day now on Dwight, Stanley, and Hempfill Streets.  Ypsilanti may consider placing one of the new ones outside the Rutherford Pool where a child was hit by a car this week.

But council member Peter Murdock from the third ward says it's not the only option.

"The immediate suggestion from people was to put a 3-way stop at Congress and Elm."

The council member added that while the speed bumps don't solve every safety problem, they have reduced accidents in the area.  As of now, the speed bumps are removed during the winter.  They each cost the city about $2,000.
