A University of Michigan symposium is planned today in honor of civil rights leader Jesse Jackson.  Meanwhile, students at U of M are planning a "campus walkout" around the same time.

Saying they want action, not just words, "Students for Justice" at U of M is planning the walkout and has released a list of demands they have for university officials.

They site buildings, scholarships, and awards named after two men--Clarence Cook Little and JamesAngell--whom they say represent white supremacy on the Ann Arbor campus.

They want the university to double its commitment to rejecting racial harassment and protecting its students of color, and say the university must increase the percentage of African American students.  They also say in asking for more campus representation and protection adding,"People are afraid for their lives."

The walkout will take place in several different U of M locations beginning at the Diag at 3 PM.

The U of M protest is one of more than 20 similar walkouts planned on college campuses across the country.
