A big construction project started today in Ann Arbor to rebuild a local road.  It's expected to last until August of next year.

The Stadium Boulevard reconstruction project will affect about 23,000 drivers.  The work extends from a point about 170 feet west of South Main Street to about 200 feet east of Kipke Drive.

The project also includes replacing underground utilities, storm water improvements, and adding non-motorized amenities, such as bike lanes.

Michael Nearing is a senior project manager for the city of Ann Arbor.

"The primary detour route will be South Main Street to Eisenhower Parkway, Eisenhower Parkway to South Industrial, and then South Industrial back up to Stadium Boulevard."

As part of the project, a section of South Main Street near Snyder Avenue will also be reconstructed.
