The Washtenaw County Health Department has a new suicide prevention support group for parents.

They meet twice a month at the Washtenaw Intermediate School District building on South Wagner Road in Ann Arbor.  The group was formed after the health department hosted a suicide prevention forum in February and were informed by residents that a peer support group was needed.

Dr. Jessie Kimbrough Marshall is the county's medical director.

"Being amongst other individuals who are undergoing some of the same experiences that you're going under can be helpful in that, one, you know you're not alone, two, you all may be able to share learned experiences..."

As of July of this year, 24 people have died by suicide in Washtenaw County.  Last year, the county reported 43 deaths by suicide.
