This week, Art and Soul is about the vibrant visual arts scene in the Washtenaw County area. 89.1 WEMU's Lisa Barry is joined by state and local arts leader Omari Rush and the director of the Penny Stamps Speaker Series at the University of Michigan, Chrisstina Hamilton.
Coming up on Saturday, September 15, the Penny Stamps Speaker Series will present "The Speaker: American Protests 1960s and Today" by artist Zafos Xagoraris. It will feature a pop-up installation of pictures depicting student protests throughout American history. It will also include an open mic that visitors may use to recite historical speeches or present one of their own.

- "Morag Myerscough: Belonging" (September 13)
- "Ariel Waldman: Unexpected Space Exploration" (September 27)
- "Catherine Opie: In Person" (October 3)
- "Emory Douglas: Designing Justice" (October 4)
- "Blue Planet and Planet Earth Production Teams: Capturing the Wild"(October 11)
Omari also talks about the upcoming PBR Art Prospectus hosted by the Ann Arbor Art Center. Residents can submit Pabst Blue Ribbon-inspired artwork, which could be displayed at the Alley Bar throughout the month of October. The submission deadline is Wednesday, September 19.
Pittsfield Township is getting involved in the Midwest Sculpture Initiative, whose mission is to get more outdoor sculpture exhibits on display and promote cooperation between art organizations and local governments.
