With handwritten cards and "comfort items" purchased with money raised in Ann Arbor, a contingent of area activists traveled to Texas this week to raise awareness about hundreds of children at an immigration detention camp separated from their families.
89.1 WEMU's Lisa Barry spoke with Marcy Epstein, one of the participants who traveled from Ann Arbor this week in hopes of making a difference.
A contingent of Ann Arbor activists is in Texas offering support and raising awareness of the hundreds of children being held in a border detention camp after fleeing their country looking for a better opportunity in the United States. Marcy Epstein, a University of Michigan lecturer and social justice activist is among them.
Epstein says they have not been allowed to see the children separated from their families and being held in the detention camp and will likely not be able to. She brought a thousand handmade cards of support and "comfort items" they hope to give to the children who are being detained.
She said she is fine supporting the "supporters" already on the scene where a rally was held Thursday afternoon outside the detention camp.
