With continuing growth in student enrollment, 2018 was a good year for the Ann Arbor public school district.
89.1 WEMU’s Lisa Barry spoke with superintendent Dr. Jeanice Swift about the first half of the school year and what they're looking forward to moving into 2019.
2018 was a “tremendous” year for the Ann Arbor public school district, according to superintendent Dr. Jeanice Swift. She called the state Supreme Court ruling banning guns on school property a “victory” and said they were the only school in Washtenaw County and among only a few in the entire state to have an increase in enrollment this year.
The Ann Arbor superintendent said “schools are the microcosm of the macro,” adding they see the struggles and tensions of the country in students, so they are working hard to help students have a strong sense of well being.
Dr. Swift said the Ann Arbor school district just recently got a nearly $1 million grant from the state police to put towards increasing school security.
