It is Earth Day, and there's no better way to celebrate than volunteering your time to make our planet a little more eco-friendly. In this week's "Washtenaw United," WEMU's David Fair talks to the Huron River Watershed Council's Jason Frenzel and Amanda Reel of the United Way of Washtenaw County about the importance of volunteerism.
WEMU has partnered with the United Way of Washtenaw Countyto explore the people, organizations, and institutions creating opportunity and equity in our area. And, as part of this ongoing series, you’ll also hear from the people benefiting and growing from the investments being made in the areas of our community where there are gaps in available services. It is a community voice. It is 'Washtenaw United.'
About Jason Frenzel, CVA | Volunteer & Stewardship Coordinator, Huron River Watershed Council
Jason facilitates current and potential watershed stewards. Previously, he worked with the City of Ann Arbor’s Natural Area Preservation program for 10 years as its Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator. Jason holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State University, and Jason is also the Past President of the National Association of Volunteer Managers. He joined HRWC in 2011 and lives in the Traver Creekshed.
About Amanda Reel, Community Impact and Volunteer Center Manager, United Way
Amanda Reel currently serves as the Community Impact & Volunteer Center Manager at United Way of Washtenaw County. She is passionate about volunteerism as a lever for community change. She has more than 10 years of volunteer management experience, has developed and delivered volunteer management training, led volunteer manager professional development groups and expanded volunteer programs. Amanda was also recently selected as a “Community Engagement Fellow." Here is more about what that is.
