Washtenaw County Democrats Host Watch Party For Presidential Debate
The Washtenaw County Democratic Party hosted a watch party Tuesday night for the first of two presidential democratic debates that will be hosted in Detroit. 89.1 WEMU's Jorge Avellan attended the gathering and has the story.
Over 40 people watched closely on TV as 10 of the candidates went head-to-head on issues, such as healthcare, immigration, and gun violence. Dave from Saline, who did not want us to use his last name, was among those who attended the watch party at Aubree's Pizzeria and Grill in Ypsilanti Township.
"Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, and Pete Buttigieg are kind of standing out as the frontrunners. They seem to be taking a leadership role and seem to reflect what most democrats and progressives are thinking in this point in time," said Dave.
Another watch party will be held Wednesday, July 31st at 7:30 PM at Aubree's in Dexter. Ashton Brei Steele from Dexter says she hopes to other 10 candidates focus on an issue that's important to her.
"How they are going to address and solve the domestic violence crisis," said Steele.
Former Vice-President Joe Biden will be among the other 10 candidates who will participate in the debate at the Fox Theatre.
