Former A2 City Admin Looks Back At His Time With City & Says He Operated Every Day In Good Faith

Jorge Avellan

With fewer than ten days left on the job, Ann Arbor city administrator Howard Lazarus looks back at his experience with the city philosophically.

Lazarus, who City Council voted to remove from office on February 18, spoke to WEMU's Lisa Barry about his approach to a public service position saying he "worked as hard as he could, as long as he could in good faith and good spirits."

City Council voted 7-4 to remove Lazarus “without cause” and give him a severance package totaling around $270,000.

Lazarus says he’s disappointed he wont be able to finish the current slate of projects he was working on, but he’s optimistic.

“We’ve got exceptional leadership in city staff, and I know the things that we’ve started and that are in the incubator will continue to go forward,” Lazarus says.

Lazarus will continue to serve as Ann Arbor’s City Administrator through the end of February.

An interim administrator to replace Lazarus has not yet been named.
