Liquor Stores Can Sell Liquor Back To The State

Governor Gretchen Whitmer issued an executive order that will provide financial relief for bars and restaurants.  WEMU’s Jorge Avellan tells us how this could benefit businesses in Washtenaw County during the coronavirus crisis.

The order applies to bars and restaurants that have on-premise liquor licenses.  Kevin Gudejko is president of the Mainstreet Ventures Restaurant Group in Ann Arbor.  They own restaurants like Carson’s and The Chop House.  He says they’re considering selling their liquor to the state and would use the funds for specific purposes.

"Pay some people that you may still have on staff or pay some accounts that are receivable or rent to utilities or any of those things that you have to pay. Absolutely"

Liquor licensees approved for the program have until 90 days after the state’s emergency and disaster declarations are lifted to repurchase the spirits from the state.
