Local Ramadan Observances Moving Online

Muslim Community Association of Ann Arbor

The Muslim community in Washtenaw County is currently observing Ramadan online instead of in-person because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Facebook and Zoom are being used by the Muslim Community Association of Ann Arbor to virtually observe the month-long tradition.  Shaikh Abdullah Al-Mahmudi says they’re offering nightly readings to keep their members connected.

"What we do is we recite a portion of the Quran, the Holy Book. Instead of having that in prayer, what we do is recite that portion of the Quran and then later on everyone can just do their own individual prayer at home"

The association will also host virtual lectures during the next month as part of Ramadan.
