The Ann Arbor Independent Community Police Oversight Commission says they’re starting to see a new type of complaint being filed.
During the last few months, the commission has begun to get complaints from citizens who claim another resident called the police on them because they’re a person of color. Lisa Jackson is the chair of the commission and says they’ve alerted the police department about the new complaints.
Lisa Jackson: We’re investigating those as well because we’re interested in finding out, what was that 911? Did the person call and say hey, there’s a suspicious person of color in my neighborhood? What was the 911 call? What made the police come out and then confront this person of color because another citizen called them?
Jackson says the commission would like residents who have experienced or witnessed these incidents to report them to the commission. The commission wants to determine if a new racial profile pattern is developing in Ann Arbor.
