Individuals who violate COVID-19 orders issued by the Washtenaw County Health Department may face fines of up to $1,000.
The penalties apply to anyone who violates the social gathering order that limits indoor gatherings to 10 people and to 25 for outdoors. It also includes University of Michigan students who violate the "Stay in Place" order the county issued for them this week. Washtenaw County Board Commissioner Andy LaBarre explains how the measure will be enforced.
Commissioner Andy LaBarre: This largely depends on citizen reporting to either the county or the state.
Depending on the type of violation, individuals could be fined between $500 - $1,000. The penalties only apply to Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti where the county health orders are in place.
