Starting Monday, November 2nd, the City of Ypsilanti will start enforcing new parking time limits in Depot Town.
That includes signage that alerts drivers of 2, 3, and 4-hour parking limits in Depot Town. While all those parking spots are part of a metered parking system, as of now, the city is only issuing tickets for violating the time limit. Due to a shortage of coins during the pandemic, the city is not requiring drivers to feed the meters. Bonnie Wessler is the project manager for the Department of Public Services and explains why the new signs were installed.
Bonnie Wessler: Over time, because we didn’t have a centralized position who was responsible for making sure the parking system was coordinated, the posted time limits could be different from block to block, or even from sign to sign on the same block.
Wessler says that, while not new, 30-minute parking spots in Depot Town will continue to be enforced.
