As both Ann Arbor Public Schools and the Ann Arbor Education Association continue to push for virtual learning during the pandemic, many parents are requesting in-person learning options.
Ann Arbor parent Kathy Bishop says special education students and younger children should be allowed to return to in-person instruction because they learn better in a classroom. Bishop is a member of the Ann Arbor Reasonable Return group that’s asking the district to make the change sooner rather than later, especially after nearly 130 local physicians and pediatric providers advised the district to allow in-person instruction.
Kathy Bishop: The pediatricians tell us that they’re seeing rising rates of anxiety and obesity and all of these other things going on with kids. And we’re just looking at safety through this lens of COVID and not COVID.
Ann Arbor Public Schools says they will continue to monitor the number of COVID-19 cases in the area before allowing students to return to in-person instruction.
