Jamie Kidwell-Brix, City of Ann Arbor Sustainability Associate

More than half of available housing in Ann Arbor is comprised of rentals. In this week's 'Issues of the Environment' David Fair talks with Ann Arbor Sustainability Associate Jamie Kidwell-Brix about the importance of making these properties more efficient, and what the city and Washtenaw County are doing to help.

Overview
  *   Rental housing is roughly 55% of the total housing stock in Ann Arbor, making rentals a significant source of greenhouse gas emissions.
  *   In line with Ann Arbor’s Climate Action Plan objectives, the city is offering low interest loans to help landlords make energy efficiency improvements.
  *   Jamie Kidwell-Brix, Sustainability Associate for the City of Ann Arbor, says that offering these loans to landlords is an attempt in incentivize energy efficiency improvements that may not otherwise be made since renters foot the bill, not landlords. Jamie is familiar with the city’s Climate Action Plan goals and will be able to explain how the rental-loan plan furthers them.
